Shapovalov overcomes Kecmanovic in Acapulco first round
Denis Shapovalov edged out Miomir Kecmanovic 6-7(4), 6-0, 7-5 on Monday night and will play No 3 seed Taylor Fritz in the next round.
Canadian Denis Shapovalov edged out Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic 6-7(4), 6-0, 7-5 to reach the second round of the Mexican Open at the Princess Mundo Imperial in Acapulco on Monday night.
It was a roller-coaster ride, complete with all kinds of momentum swings. Shapovalov broke back late in the first set only to lose the ensuing tiebreaker. The left-hander swiftly rebounded to dish out a bagel in the second. In the decider it was Kecmanovic’s turn to mount a comeback. The recent Delray Beach runner-up broke back when his opponent served for the match at 5-4, but that success was short-lived. Shapovalov broke again for a 6-5 advantage and this time he made no mistake with victory on his racket.
