Mexican Open: Rune advances to quarter-finals, faces Koepfer next

Denmark’s Holger Rune, the second seed, defeated American qualifier Aleksandar Kovacevic 7-6 (5), 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open at the Princess Mundo Imperial Resort in Acapulco on Wednesday.
Rune, ranked No 7, will play German Dominik Koepfer next. The 20-year-old Dane won against American qualifier Michael Mmoh (6-2, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
Rune is playing his first event since reuniting with Patrick Mouratoglou as his coach.
In the previous round of the tournament, Kovacevic, ranked No 93, edged out Australian Jordan Thompson (6-3, 5-7, 6-4).
