Tommy Paul moves into all American semi-final in Acapulco
The American will play the winner of the match between No 3 seed Taylor Fritz and No 6 seed Frances Tiafoe in the last four
Seventh seed Tommy Paul reached the semi-finals of the Mexican Open by beating fellow American Mackenzie McDonald 6-2, 6-2 at the Princess Mundo Imperial in Acapulco on Thursday.
Paul needed only 59 minutes for the win, breaking his opponent on four occasions and not losing his serve in the entire match.
Paul, ranked No 23 in the world, will face another countryman of his in an all-American semi-final as he takes on the winner of the quarter-final between two Americans – No 3 seed Taylor Fritz and No 6 seed Frances Tiafoe – next.
Earlier in the week, Tommy Paul beat Ecuadorian Emilio Gomez (6-1, 7-6 (4)) and Michael Mmoh (6-4, 2-2 ret.)
McDonald, ranked No 62 in the world, had won against Italian lucky loser Luciano Darderi (6-4, 6-2) and Brandon Nakashima (6-2, 6-0) in the previous rounds of the Acapulco Open.
