Mexican Open: De Minaur beats younger Berrettini to reach quarter-finals
The Australian will next meet Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel in Acapulco
Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 8 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open by winning against Italian qualifier Jacopo Berrettini 6-1, 6-0 at the Princess Mundo Imperial in Acapulco on Wednesday.
Jacopo Berrettini, ranked outside the top 800 in the world, is the younger brother of world no 24 Matteo Berrettini, who won his second round match at the same event on Wednesday.
De Minaur, ranked No 22, will next face Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel, who upset second seed Casper Ruud in the second round.
The Australian beat Mexican wildcard Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez (6-1, 6-2) in the previous round of the Acapulco Open.
During the first round of the Acapulco Open, Jacopo Berrettini benefited from the abandonment of German Oscar Otte (3-6, 7-6 (3), 2-1).
