Mexican Open: De Minaur advances into semi-finals

The Australian will face Italian Matteo Berrettini or Dane Holger Rune, the No 4 seed, in the semi-finals

Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 8 seed, scored a straight sets win over Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel to reach the semi-finals of the Mexican Open at the Princess Mundo Imperial in Acapulco on Thursday.

De Minaur, ranked No 22 in the world, needed one hour and 37 minutes to win 6-2, 6-2. He will face the winner of the match between Italian Matteo Berrettini and Dane Holger Rune, the No 4 seed, next.

The Australian beat Mexican wildcard Rodrigo Pacheco Mendez (6-1, 6-2) and Italian qualifier Jacopo Berrettini (6-1, 6-0) in the previous rounds of the Acapulco Open.

Earlier in the week, Daniel, ranked No 125, won against American J.J. Wolf (6-4, 6-4) and upset Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed (7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (5)).
