Lorenzo Sonego wins first hard court title at Moselle Open
Lorenzo Sonego won the title at the Moselle Open, defeating Alexander Bublik (7-6, 6-2)
Italian Lorenzo Sonego won the Metz Open title by beating Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 7 seed, 7-6 (3), 6-2 at Arènes de Metz on Sunday.
This is Sonego’s third ATP title after Antalya in 2019 and Cagliari in 2021, the first one indoors.
Sonego, ranked No 65 and aged 27, defeated three seeds all along the tournament : Russian Aslan Karatsev, the No 6 seed (7-5, 6-3), French wildcard Gilles Simon (7-6 (2), 6-4), American Sebastian Korda (6-4, 6-4) and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the second seed (7-6 (5), 6-4), before Bublik
Bublik, ranked No 44, lost his sixth final in career (one won this year in Montpellier), the second in 2022 after Newport. He defeated French qualifier Evan Furness (5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (5)), Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3), Dane Holger Rune, the No 4 seed (6-3, 5-7, 6-4) and Swiss qualifier Stan Wawrinka (2-1 ret.) in the previous rounds of the Metz.
