Metz Open: Bublik books spot in semi-finals
Alexander Bublik edged out Holger Rune 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 on Friday evening and will face Swiss qualifier Stan Wawrinka in the next round
Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 7 seed, reached the last 4 of the Metz Open by edging out Dane Holger Rune, the No 4 seed, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 at Arènes de Metz on Friday evening.
Bublik, ranked No 44, will play Swiss qualifier Stan Wawrinka next.
The Kazakh edged out French qualifier Evan Furness (5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (5)) and won against Finn Emil Ruusuvuori (6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous round of the Metz, Rune, ranked No 31, benefited from the abandonment of Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi (6-4, 4-1).
