Rafael Nadal enjoyed a welcome day off the match court on Friday as he reached the semi-finals of the Melbourne Summer Set event at Melbourne Park when opponent Tallon Grieksoor of Netherlands withdrew with a foot injury.
Nadal will now face the talented world No 95, Emil Ruusuvouri of Finland, a man he trained with earlier in the week.
This is Nadal’s first official ATP event since August of last year, because of a foot injury of his own. He played two matches last month in the Abu Dhabi invitational event.
Nadal was back on the court later in the day, though, honing his game in practice.
