Medvedev to meet local favourite Otte in Halle semis
Daniil Medvedev beats Roberto Bautista Agut 6-2, 6-4 and is now onw win away from reaching his second consecutive grass court final
World No 1 Daniil Medvedev scored a straight sets win over seventh seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut to reach the semi-finals of the Halle Open at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Friday.
The Russian, who returned to the top spot in the world rankings this week, won 6-2, 6-4 over Agut to win his third straight sets match in a row this week.
Medvedev, who reached the final in Stuttgart last week before being defeated by world No 205 Tim van Rijthoven, will take on local favourite Oscar Otte for a place in the final. Otte upset eighth seed Karen Khachanov 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 earlier on Friday.
Medvedev will be among the Russian and Belarusian players not allowed to participate at Wimbledon this year after the All England Club decided to ban players from those countries from competing at SW 19. However, he will be allowed to compete at the US Open later this tear after the USTA announced that they will not hold players responsible for actions of their governments.
