Medvedev confirms Marseille mission after shocking second round loss in Rotterdam
Daniil Medvedev will compete in 2025 Open 13 Provence four years after he triumphed there in 2021
Daniil Medvedev confirmed his participation in the 2025 Open 13 Provence, an ATP 250 tournament scheduled to run from February 10-16 in Marseille France. The confirmation came directly from the Russian after his shocking second round loss in Rotterdam on Wednesday (February 5).
Medvedev, the second seed, defeated Swiss Stan Wawrinka (6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-1) in the first round but failed against world No 92 Matteo Bellucci (6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3) in the Round of 16.
Following the disappointing result, the Russian talked to the media at Rotterdam Ahoy and, while assessing his performance against Bellucci, he confirmed
“Not playing my best tennis at the moment. I had my chances, I should have played better, more consistently, hit some better shots, but I didn’t manage to do it, and he took his chance, played pretty well overall. The story of the match is that, in my opinion, I played very badly, and I almost won it. So, in one way, it’s a good sign; in another way, well, I don’t want to play like that,” the world No 7 said, adding:
“I have my next tournament in Marseille in a couple of days, so I will try again there.”
This means Medvedev will play in Marseille after a four-year gap. He last competed in the ATP 250 event there in 2021 and took the trophy home by defeating Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the final.
