Marseille Open: Top seed Hurkacz beats Bublik to reach final
Hubert Hurkacz won against Alexander Bublik 6-4, 7-6 (4) on Saturday. He’ll face the winner of the match between Benjamin Bonzi and wildcard Arthur Fils for the title
Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the top seed, beat Kazakh Alexander Bublik 6-4, 7-6 (4) to advance to the final of the Marseille Open at the Palais des sports de Marseille on Saturday.
Hurkacz, ranked No 11, will play the winner of the match between Benjamin Bonzi and wildcard Arthur Fils next.
The Pole is into his seventh final at a tour-level event – his first since his losing effort to Pablo Carreno Busta in Montreal last year.
He will take some reassurance from the fact that this is his first match this week that did not go to a deciding set – but he will also have known he had won his last four matches against Bublik.
Earlier in the tournament, the Pole won against Swiss Leandro Riedi (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and edged out Swede Mikael Ymer (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (6)).
Bublik, ranked No 50, won against Serb Filip Krajinovic (5-7, 6-3, 6-4), Frenchman Gregoire Barrere (6-4, 6-2) and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 4 seed (7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (6)) in the previous rounds of the Open de Provence.
