Marseille Open: Defending champion Humbert eases past Bergs to return to final

Ugo Humbert beat Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-4 and will play the winner of the match between Daniil Medvedev and Hamad Medjedovic for the title

Ugo Humbert, the second seed, moved into the final of the Marseille Open by defeating Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-4 at the Palais des sports.

Humbert, the defending champion in Marseille, broke once in each set without reply to seal a comfortable win over the Belgian.

The Frenchman returns to the final one year on from defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the final last year, becoming the seventh player in history to reach back-to-back finals at the event.

Humbert, ranked No 17, will face the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the top seed, and Serb Hamad Medjedovic next.

The Frenchman won against Kazakh Alexander Bublik (7-6 (7), 6-4) and Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Marseille tournament, Bergs, ranked No 62, beat French qualifier Clement Chidekh (6-4, 6-4), Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 8 seed (6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-2) and Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (7-5 ret.).
