Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini moved into the second round of the Marrakech Open by edging out Frenchman Hugo Gaston 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-4 at Royal Tennis Club de Marrakech on Tuesday.
Fognini, ranked No 100, will play top seed Laslo Djere next.
