Marathon day at Rio Open ends with Tseng beating Monteiro
Chun-Hsin Tseng beat Thiago Monteiro in three sets in the Rio de Janeiro second round. Tseng will face No 5 seed Sebastian Baez in the next round.
Qualifier Chun-Hsin Tseng reached the last eight of the Rio Open by edging out wild card Thiago Monteiro 6-7 (4), 6-3, 7-6 (4) at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday night.
Well, it was actually Thursday morning.
The match lasted three hours and 30 minutes, and ended after 2:30 am.
Tseng will face No 5 seed Sebastian Baez next. The world No 125 previously ousted Alejandro Tabilo, the No 3 seed, 6-2, 7-5.
Monteiro, who beat Facundo Diaz Acosta 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) in round one, was the last Brazilian remaining in the draw.
