Madrid Masters: Struff continues fine form to oust Humbert and reach last 16

Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 23 seed, beat Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 13 seed, 7-5, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Magica.

The German is now on a six-match winning streak, having taken the title in Munich last week for his maiden ATP trophy.

He is a force to be reckoned with on clay, as he reached the final at this tournament last year, losing in three sets to Carlos Alcaraz.

Struff, ranked No 24, will face the winner of the match between Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, next.

The 34-year-old German won against Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-1, 7-5) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.

In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Humbert, ranked No 14, won against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (6-3, 6-3).
