Madrid Masters: Safiullin knocks out Paul to reach third round
Roman Safiullin won against Tommy Paul 6-3, 7-6 (3) on Saturday. He’ll play the winner of the match between Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles and No 19 seed Daniel Evans in the next round

Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin moved into the third round of the Madrid Masters by winning against American Tommy Paul, the No 14 seed, 6-3, 7-6 (3) at the Caja Magica on Saturday.
Safiullin, ranked No 112, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles and No 19 seed Daniel Evans next.
The Russian beat Chilean Nicolas Jarry (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) ahead of his victory.
