Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 7 seed, edged out Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 to win the Madrid Masters trophy at the Caja Magica on Sunday evening.
Earlier in the tournament, Rublev, ranked No 8, defeated Argentinian qualifier Facundo Bagnis (6-1, 6-4), Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 27 seed (7-6 (10), 6-4), Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 24 seed (6-2, 6-4), Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) and American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed (6-4, 6-3).
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 35, beat Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (4-6, 6-1, 6-4), Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 19 seed (6-0, 6-4), Jakub Mensik (6-1, 1-0 ret.), Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 5 seed (6-4, 7-5), Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed (W/O) and No 30 seed Jiri Lehecka (3-3 ret.) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
