Madrid Masters: Rublev moves into last 16, tenth match win on clay in 2023
Andrey Rublev defeated Yoshihito Nishioka 6-2, 7-5 on Sunday and will play Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 10 seed, in the next round
Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 5 seed, won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, the No 28 seed, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the last 16 of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Magica on Sunday.
It is his tenth match win on clay so far this year, following his title in Monte-Carlo and run to the final in Banja Luka.
Rublev, ranked No 6, will face Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 10 seed, next.
The Russian beat Swiss Stan Wawrinka (7-5, 6-4) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Nishioka, ranked No 34, edged out Slovak Alex Molcan (5-7, 6-4, 6-4).
