Rublev continues resurgence with win over Griekspoor to make quarter-finals in Madrid
Andrey Rublev won against Tallon Griekspoor 6-2, 6-4 on Tuesday. He’ll play the winner of the match between German Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 23 seed, and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, in the next round
Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 7 seed, maintained his resurgence after a poor start tot he clay-court season as he beat Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 24 seed, 6-2, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Magica on Tuesday.
Rublev, ranked No 8, will play the winner of the match between German Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 23 seed, and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament, the Russian won against Argentinian qualifier Facundo Bagnis (6-1, 6-4) and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 27 seed (7-6 (10), 6-4).
Griekspoor, ranked No 25, edged out Japanese Taro Daniel (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and defeated Dane Holger Rune, the No 11 seed (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
