Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 7 seed, advanced to the final of the Madrid Masters by defeating American Taylor Fritz, the No 12 seed, 6-4, 6-3 at the Caja Magica on Friday.

Rublev, ranked No 8, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and No 30 seed Jiri Lehecka next.

The Russian won against Argentinian qualifier Facundo Bagnis (6-1, 6-4), Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 27 seed (7-6 (10), 6-4), Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, the No 24 seed (6-2, 6-4) and Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament, Fritz, ranked No 13, won against Italian Luciano Darderi (7-6 (1), 6-4), Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 18 seed (6-2, 6-3), Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed (7-6 (2), 6-4) and Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 21 seed (6-1, 3-6, 6-3).
