Madrid Masters: Fritz battles past fellow O’Connell to reach round three
Taylor Fritz won against Christopher O’Connell 7-6 (11), 6-4 on Saturday. He’ll face the winner of the match between Chilean Cristian Garin and Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 27 seed, in the next round

American Taylor Fritz, the No 8 seed, reached the third round of the Madrid Masters by winning against Australian Christopher O’Connell 7-6 (11), 6-4 at the Caja Magica on Saturday.
Fritz, ranked No 10, will play the winner of the match between Chilean Cristian Garin and Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 27 seed, next.
O’Connell, ranked No 81, defeated Serb Filip Krajinovic (6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-2) in the previous round of the Madrid tournament.
