Madrid Masters: Coric takes out Hurkacz, advances to last 16

Croat Borna Coric, the No 17 seed, defeated Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 12 seed, 7-6 (3), 6-3 to advance to the last 16 of the Madrid Masters at the Caja Magica on Sunday.

Coric, ranked No 20, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 29 seed, and Dane Holger Rune, the No 6 seed, next.

The Croat won against French wildcard Hugo Gaston (6-3, 6-3) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Madrid tournament, Hurkacz, ranked No 15, edged out Frenchman Richard Gasquet (6-7 (9), 6-4, 7-5).
