Madrid Masters: Auger-Aliassime reaches semi-finals
Felix Auger-Aliassime benefited from the forfeit of Jannik Sinner on Thursday night and will face the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, and No 30 seed Jiri Lehecka in the next round
Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime moved into the last four of the Madrid Masters after Italian Jannik Sinner, the top seed, withdrew before the match on Thursday night at the Caja Magica.
Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 35, will play the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, and No 30 seed Jiri Lehecka next.
Ahead of his victory, the Canadian won against Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka (4-6, 6-1, 6-4), Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, the No 19 seed (6-0, 6-4), Jakub Mensik (6-1, 1-0 ret.) and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 5 seed (6-4, 7-5).
Sinner, ranked No 2, beat Lorenzo Sonego (6-0, 6-3), Russian Pavel Kotov (6-2, 7-5) and Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 16 seed (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Madrid tournament.
