Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas advanced to the second round of the Lyon Open by edging out Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 at Parc de la Tête d’or on Sunday.
Varillas, ranked No 97, will play No 4 seed Francisco Cerundolo next.
