American Tommy Paul, the No 3 seed, reached the last eight of the Lyon Open by defeating Frenchman Gregoire Barrere 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-3 at Parc de la Tête d’or on Wednesday.
Paul, ranked No 17 in the world, will face American Brandon Nakashima, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Lyon tournament, Barrere, ranked No 55, won against Corentin Moutet (6-4, 6-2).
