Lyon Open: Mpetshi Perricard powers his way into semi-finals
Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard defeated fellow Frenchman Hugo Gaston in three sets to reach the Lyon semis on Thursday. Next up for the 20-year-old is Alexander Bublik.
In an all-French showdown at the Lyon Open, wildcard Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard defeated qualifier Hugo Gaston 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the semi-finals at Parc de la Tête d’or on Thursday evening.
Mpetshi Perricard, ranked No 117, will play Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the second seed, for a spot in the title match.
The 20-year-old previously got past Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-3, 6-4) and Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka (via walkover) earlier in the tournament.
Gaston, ranked No 104, advanced to the quarters at the expense of Colombian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan (7-6 (2), 7-6 (4)) and Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, the No 4 seed (6-2, 2-6, 6-3).
