Lucky loser Faria secures spot in Rio de Janeiro quarter-finals
Jaime Faria beat Jaume Munar in three sets during second-round competition at the Rio ATP 500 on Thursday. Faria awaits either Camilo Ugo Carabelli or Damir Dzumhur in the last eight.
Lucky loser Jaime Faria defeated Spaniard Jaume Munar 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the Rio Open at the Jockey Club Brasileiro in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday.
Faria got the job done in two hours and two minutes.
The world No 107 will next face the winner of a match between Argentinian lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli and Bosnian Damir Dzumhur.
Faria, a 21-year-old from Portugal, previously defeated Chilean qualifier Tomas Barrios Vera 6-2, 7-5.
Munar, ranked No 55, had advanced with a contentious 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 victory over Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild.
