Medvedev scores 250th career win to reach Los Cabos quarter-finals
Daniil Medvedev beat Rinky Hijikata 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday to set up a quarter-final clash against Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis
World No 1 Daniil Medvedev reached the quarter-finals of the Los Cabos Open by defeating Australian qualifier Rinky Hijikata in straight sets at the Cabo del Mar Sports Center on Wednesday.
Playing his first match since June 23rd as he was banned form competing at Wimbledon, Medvedev won 6-4, 6-3 to set up a clash against Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis next.
The win was Medvedev’s 250th career win on the tour, making him the seventh man born in 1990 or later and the second born in 1995 or later to achieve the 250 win milestone.
With a huge number of points coming up for him to defend over his favourite part of the season, Medvedev’s No 1 ranking is under threat. The Russian needs a good run this week and next week to hold on to the No 1 spot till mid-August.
