Los Cabos Open: De Minaur beats Koepfer to reach final, faces Tsitsipas for title
The Australian scored a three set win over Dominik Koepfer 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1 to reach the final
Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 5 seed, won against German Dominik Koepfer, the No 7 seed, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1 to move into the final of the Los Cabos Open at the Cabo del Mar Sports Center on Saturday.
The Australian avenged his only previous loss to Koepfer which came in Rome on clay in 2020.
De Minaur, ranked No 19, will play Stefanos Tsitsipas, the top seed, for the title on Sunday. He will he hoping for a first win in 10 attempts over the Greek No. 1
The Australian beat Tunisian qualifier Skander Mansouri (6-4, 6-4), Argentinian Thiago Agustin Tirante (6-2, 6-1) and American Tommy Paul, the No 3 seed (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) ahead of his semi-final win. De Minaur has now won 9 matches in a row in Mexico this year, having also won the Acapulco title earlier in the season.
“Today was a battle. I knew it was never going to be easy against Dominik,” said De Minaur as quoted by the ATP Tour website. “He’s been playing some great tennis recently and he’s very dangerous in these conditions. Mexico has treated me very well this year, so hopefully I can go one further tomorrow.”
He will be playing his 13th ATP Tour singles final, having won seven of his 12 previous ATP finals. Earlier in the tournament, Koepfer, ranked No 84, won against Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera (6-4, 6-3), Australian James Duckworth (6-2, 6-2) and American Aleksandar Kovacevic (6-4, 7-5).
