Korea Open: Shapovalov reaches his first final of 2022 in Seoul
Denis Shapovalov beat Jenson Brooksby 7-5, 6-4 on Saturday
Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 4 seed, beat American Jenson Brooksby, the No 8 seed, 7-5, 6-4 to move into the final of the Korea Open at the Seoul Olympic Park on Saturday.
Shapovalov, ranked No 24, will face the winner of the match between Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka and American lucky loser Aleksandar Kovacevic next.
That is Shapovalov’s first final in 2022 and first final on the Tour since Stockholm in 2021, where he lost to Tommy Paul (apart from the ATP Cup, a team competition).
Overall, it is his fifth ATP final of his career (following his maiden career title in Stockholm in October 2019, the 2019 Paris Masters, and Stockholm and Geneva last year). He will need to win the final to be back in the Top 20.
Shapovalov has not lost a set since the beginning of the week. In the previous rounds, the Canadian won against Spaniard Jaume Munar (7-5, 6-4) and Radu Albot (6-2, 6-2).
Brooksby, ranked No 46, won against qualifier Tung-lin Wu (7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-0), SoonWoo Kwon (6-3, 6-4) and second seed Cameron Norrie (W/O) earlier in the tournament.
