Sebastian Korda is into the Intesa Sanpaolo Next Gen ATP Final – but he did it the hard way, beating Brandon Nakashima in five sets, 4-3, 2-4, 1-4, 4-2, 4-2.
He becomes the first American in the tournament’s four-year history to reach the final.
“Brandon was playing some unbelievable tennis but I stayed with him and had some chances in the fourth and five sets and took them and ran,” the second seed said in his on-court interview following his win. “I got more aggressive. I tried coming into the net more and placing my serves more, and that opened up the court for me.”
Sebastian Korda reached a career-high ranking of 38 in 2021, and won the title in Parma, where he did not drop a set.
He reached the semi-finals in Turin by winning all three of his round-robin matches.
