Korda survives tough Sonego test to reach Adelaide quarter-finals
Sebastian Korda won against Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6 (10) on Wednesday. He’ll play Christopher O’Connell in the next round
Sebastian Korda, the No 3 seed, beat Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6 (10) to reach the last eight of the Adelaide Open at the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre on Wednesday night.
The win was Korda’s first in 2024, with the American having lost in the first round of the Brisbane International last week. The world No 29 will be thankful this match didn’t go to three sets, with Sonego having five set points across the second set but failing to close out the set.
Korda will face Australian wildcard Christopher O’Connell next.
Sonego, ranked No 46, edged out German Yannick Hanfmann (7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (9)) in the previous round of the Adelaide tournament.
