Japan Open: Tiafoe reaches quarter-finals

American Frances Tiafoe, the No 4 seed, won against Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 6-1, 7-6 (7) to move into the quarter-finals of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Thursday.
Tiafoe, ranked No 19, will play the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and No 8 seed Daniel Evans next.
In the previous round of the Tokyo Open, the American beat Japanese wildcard Yasutaka Uchiyama (6-3, 6-4). Zapata Miralles, ranked No 80, won against Japanese Taro Daniel (7-5, 7-5).
