Kyrgios reaches ninth quarter-final of the season at Japan Open

Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios reached his ninth quarter-final of the 2022 season with a three-set win over Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak to reach the last eight of the Japan Open in Tokyo on Thursday.
Seeded No 5, the Australian overcame the loss of the first to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 22 minutes at the Ariake Colosseum.
Kyrgios has reached at least the quarter-final or better in nine out of 13 tournaments played in 2022, in what is turning out to be the best season of his career.
The Australian slammed 22 aces during the contest and lost his serve only once in the match. In the previous round of the Tokyo Open, Kyrgios had defeated Chun-Hsin Tseng (6-3, 6-1).
Kyrgios, ranked No 20, will play the winner of the match between third seeded American Taylor Fritz and Japanese lucky loser Hiroki Moriya.

Later on Thursday, Kyrgios and countryman Thanasi Kokkinakis will take on Perdo Martinez and Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the doubles quarter-finals.
On Wednesday, the Australian Open champions scored a 6-1, 6-2 win over the wild card pairing of Kaichi Uchida and Yoshihito Nishioka, during which Kyrgios hit an incredible around-the-net-post winner.
