SoonWoo Kwon won against American Mackenzie McDonald 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2 to reach the last eight of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Kwon, ranked No 120, will face the winner of the match between Jaume Munar and Pedro Martinez next.
SoonWoo Kwon beat Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-2) ahead of his victory. McDonald, ranked No 78, defeated Japanese wildcard Kaichi Uchida (7-6 (4), 6-7 (2), 6-3).
