No 8 seed Daniel Evans edged out Radu Albot 6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-4 to reach the second round of the Japan Open at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Tuesday.
Evans, ranked No 25, will play the winner of the match between Serb Miomir Kecmanovic and Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, winner of the Korean Open last week, next.
