Another seed falls in Tokyo as Draper downs Hurkacz
Jack Draper won against Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-4 on Friday and will play the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima and Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the next round
Jack Draper advanced to the last eight of the Japan Open by winning against Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the second seed, 6-4, 6-4 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Friday.
The win is Draper’s third top 10 victory in his last four meetings against tennis’ upper echelon, and fifth overall in his career.
Hurkacz became the fifth seeded player to go out of contention in Tokyo after Taylor Fritz (1), Casper Ruud (3) Stefanos Tsitsipas (4), and Frances Tiafoe (7).
Draper, ranked No 20, will face the winner of the match between American Brandon Nakashima and Frenchman Ugo Humbert next.
Jack Draper defeated Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci (6-4, 6-2) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Tokyo Open, Hurkacz, ranked No 8, edged out American Marcos Giron (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4).
