World No 1 Jannik Sinner continued his hard court domination at the 2025 Australian Open, but he has chosen to not attempt to defend his ATP 500 title in Rotterdam.

The three-time major champion stated in the press release:

“After consulting with my team we had to take the difficult decision to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open. My body needs time to rest after the long run in Australia. I have great memories from winning the title in front of amazing crowds at Rotterdam Ahoy last year and hope to be back there soon. I wish Richard and the whole team a great event.”

Tournament director – and former professional player – Richard Krajicek was highly understanding of the Italian’s decision not to participate:

“The Australian Open has been long and tough for Jannik. It is a great shame for both him and us that his efforts are preventing him from participating in Rotterdam.”

At last year’s edition, Sinner defeated Botic Van de Zandschulp, Gael Monfils, Milos Raonic, Tallon Griekspoor, and Alex de Minaur to claim the title – beating the Australian 7-5, 6-4 in the final.

Nonetheless, the Rotterdam event (February 3 – 9) will be star-studded and features Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, and Holger Rune – among others.

The Italian’s next scheduled event will be the Qatar Open, taking place February 17-22.
