Indian Wells: Sinner dispatches Struff, improves winning streak to 17
Jannik Sinner defeated Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3, 6-4 on Sunday night and will face the winner of the match between American Ben Shelton, the No 16 seed, and Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 22 seed, in the next round
Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 3 seed, beat German Jan-Lennard Struff, the No 25 seed, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Sunday night.
The victory is yet another in Sinner’s rapidly building resume. The 22-year-old has now won 17 matches in a row dating back to the Davis Cup in 2023. He’s undefeated in 2024, having won the Australian Open, Rotterdam Open and his opening two matches in Indian Wells. Since the US Open, the Italian is 34-2, and since Wimbledon, he’s 10-1 against top five opponents.
“I feel like I have confidence in my shots,” Sinner explained after his win over Struff. “That’s why I work hard, trying to get a feel. There are good days and worse days. Today I felt really good on court. Let’s see what’s coming in the next round.”
Sinner, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between American Ben Shelton, the No 16 seed, and Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 22 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, the 22-year-old Italian won against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis (6-3, 6-0).
Struff, ranked No 25, edged out Croat Borna Coric (6-7 (3), 6-2, 7-6 (9)) in the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters.
