Indian Wells Masters: Qualifier Tabilo beats Thompson, to meet Tiafoe in last 16
The Chilean qualifier defeated Jordan Thompson 6-3, 7-6 (6) in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open
Chilean qualifier Alejandro Tabilo won against Australian Jordan Thompson 6-3, 7-6 (6) to advance to the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters on Sunday.
Tabilo, ranked No 187, will face American Frances Tiafoe, the No 14 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Chilean beat German qualifier Maximilian Marterer (6-4, 6-3) and American Maxime Cressy, the No 32 seed (7-6 (3), 7-6 (13)).
Thompson, ranked No 87, defeated Frenchman Gael Monfils (6-3, 6-1) and edged out Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the second seed (7-6, 4-6, 7-6 (5)) in the previous rounds of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters.
