Indian Wells Masters: Sinner scores third consecutive win over Wawrinka, faces Fritz in quarters
The Italian beats Wawrinka in straight sets to take a 3-2 lead over the Swiss
Italian Jannik Sinner, the No 11 seed, scored his third consecutive win over Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka to move into the last eight of the Indian Wells Masters on Tuesday evening.
Sinner, ranked No 13 in the world, won 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 39 minutes and will face American Taylor Fritz, the No 4 seed, next. Sinner now has on overall 3-2 edge over Wawrinka.
The 21-year-old Italian defeated Frenchman Richard Gasquet (6-3, 7-6 (2)) and Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (7-6 (7), 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Wawrinka, ranked No 100, beat Australian Aleksandar Vukic (6-4, 1-6, 6-1), Serb Miomir Kecmanovic, the No 26 seed (7-6 (8), 6-4) and Dane Holger Rune, the No 7 seed (6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5).
