Indian Wells Masters: Shelton holds seed against Khachanov

Ben Shelton, the No 11 seed, won against Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 22 seed, 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters in California on Monday.

The American was made to work hard for his sixth Masters 1000 fourth round, winning four games in a row to come back from 5-3 down in the second set and close out the match.

Shelton, ranked No 12, will face American Brandon Nakashima, the No 32 seed, next.

The 22-year-old American beat Argentinian Mariano Navone (6-3, 6-2) in the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters, Khachanov, ranked No 23, won against Jakub Mensik (3-6, 6-0, 6-3).
