Finn Emil Ruusuvuori reached the second round of the Indian Wells Masters when Frenchman Constant Lestienne retired at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Wednesday.
Ruusuvuori, ranked No 59, led 6-4, 4-1 when Lestienne, ranked No 62, pulled out on.
The Finn will face No 22 seed Roberto Bautista Agut next.
