Australian Christopher O’Connell advanced to the second round of the Indian Wells Masters by defeating Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3, 0-6, 6-1 in California on Wednesday.

O’Connell, ranked No 75, will play No 28 seed Matteo Berrettini next.
