Serb Dusan Lajovic defeated Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 7-5, 6-2 to reach the second round of the Indian Wells Masters at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Thursday.

Lajovic, ranked No 56, will play No 18 seed Frances Tiafoe next.
