Indian Wells Masters: Kubler into third round as Dimitrov retires in third set

Australian Jason Kubler moved into the third round of the Indian Wells Masters when Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 21 seed, retired during the third set of their match on Friday.

Kubler, ranked No 75 in the world, led 2-6, 7-6 (5), 3-0 when Dimitrov, ranked No 25, pulled out at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Australian will play the winner of the match between No 14 seed Frances Tiafoe and Marcos Giron next.

Kubler had won against Italian Lorenzo Sonego (6-4, 7-6 (4)) in the first round of the ATP Masters 1000 event.
