Indian Wells Masters: Davidovich Fokina makes quarter-finals
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina won against Cristian Garin 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday and will play the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 5 seed, and German Alexander Zverev, the No 12 seed, in the next round
Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 23 seed, defeated Chilean qualifier Cristian Garin 6-3, 6-4 to move into the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells Masters at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Tuesday.
Davidovich Fokina, ranked No 28, will face the winner of the match between Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 5 seed, and German Alexander Zverev, the No 12 seed, next.
It will be the Spaniard’s first Masters 1000 quarter-final outside of Monte Carlo (where he has reached the last eight in 2021, then the final last year).
Ahead of his victory, the Spaniard won against Chinese wildcard Yibing Wu (6-4, 6-1) and edged out Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 13 seed (6-3, 1-6, 6-4).
Garin, ranked No 97, beat Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-4, 6-2), Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka, the No 29 seed (6-4, 6-0) and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 3 seed (6-4, 7-6 (2)) earlier in the tournament.
