Indian Wells Masters: Alcaraz through to last 16

Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, beat Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the No 27 seed, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Monday.

Alcaraz, ranked No 3, will play the winner of the match between Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 14 seed, and Frenchman Gael Monfils next.

The 21-year-old Spaniard won against Frenchman Quentin Halys (6-4, 6-2) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters, Shapovalov, ranked No 28, won against Australian qualifier Adam Walton (6-3, 6-2).
