Indian Wells: Fils beats former quarter-finalist Davidovich Fokina to make third round

Arthur Fils defeated Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 23 seed, 6-3, 6-4 to move into the third round of the Indian Wells Masters at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Saturday evening.

The Frenchman played clean tennis in the desert, winning 89 percent of his first serve points and striking 17 winners to just seven unforced errors across the one hour, 18 minute match.

Fils, ranked No 43, will play the winner of the match between Norwegian Casper Ruud, the No 9 seed, and Slovak qualifier Lukas Klein next. The 19-year-old Frenchman won against Portuguese Nuno Borges (7-6 (5), 6-2) in the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters.
