Norrie battles back for third-round win over Daniel in Indian Wells, extends win streak to seven
The 2021 champion came from a set and 4-1 down to reach the last 16 and make it 20-3 for the year
Former champion Cameron Norrie was at his battling best as he came from a set and 4-1 down to beat Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2 for a place in the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Sunday.
Norrie, ranked No 12 and the champion in Rio last time out, took his win streak to seven and his record for the year to 20-3. The Briton will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 6 seed, and Frenchman Ugo Humbert next.
Ahead of his victory, Cameron Norrie won against Tung-lin Wu (6-2, 6-4).
Daniel, ranked No 103, defeated Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (6-1, 7-5) and Italian Matteo Berrettini, the No 20 seed (7-6 (5), 0-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
